Obituary

Barbara "Maxine" Edwards Lambeth was born on March 15, 1937 in Moody, Texas to Clyde Clifton Edwards and Lora Lee Carpenter Edwards. She was the second of three children. As a child, the family of five lived in many central/coastal Texas towns, as necessitated by her Dad's work in the refinery/mechanic business. While most of her high school years were spent in Bloomington, she actually graduated in the first graduating class of Austin's brand new William B. Travis High School in 1955.That same year, soon after graduating, she married Jasper 'Jack' Lewis Lambeth, an Air Force mechanic from North Carolina she met on a blind date earlier that year while he was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. After a brief move to Jack's home state, they returned to Texas for the remainder of their 66 year marriage. In 1959, Jack and Maxine started their family which eventually grew to five.
While she enjoyed crocheting, cake decorating and reading books, 'Nanny' truly loved doting on her 'kids', children and grandchildren, including teaching them arts & crafts and cooking, but mostly feeding and mentoring them. Even as adults, the kids still gravitated to her home almost daily, as it was their rock in Austin. Nanny was always home and they knew they could go there to talk without sugarcoating, cry, learn, rest, relax and even get gently scolded if needed, but never judged. Far and above anything else, they always knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they were unconditionally loved.
While Maxine will be sorely missed, she went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 1, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lora Edwards; and earlier this year, by both her brother, Everett Maze, and sister, Clydia Fontenot.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Jack Lambeth; daughter, Janet Gillespie and husband Jim; daughter, Barbara Craig and husband Kevin; son, Jacky Lambeth; and grandchildren, Mike Gillespie, Tara Gillespie, Bodie Bragg and husband Kolton, Tess Gillespie and Thomas Craig, and a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.
