Lupe Mendoza Hernandez, of McGregor, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017, St. Eugene Catholic Church, McGregor, Texas, with interment following in McGregor Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Cole Funeral Home. The Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m.Lupe was born to Esteban and Juanita Maraillda Mendoza on October 5, 1946, in Anson, Texas. He attended McGregor High School and was a welder for many years. Lupe married Mary Esther Garcia on December 4, 1965. They were one of the first couples to be married at St. Eugene Catholic Church in McGregor.Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his wife, of 51 years, Mary Esther Hernandez; brothers, Frank and Abel; and sisters, Janie and Geneva.Survivors include son, Lupe Hernandez, Jr. and partner, Dean Riley, of McGregor; daughter, Norma Wilkins and husband, Michael, of Temple; grandchildren, Brian Abernathy, Jr., Alexandria Bailey and husband, Timothy, Christian Abernathy, Dylan Abernathy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
