Max Brandes, age 93, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday morning, December 1, 2020. A graveside service will be Friday, December 4, 2020, at the McGregor cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
Max, also known as Bud or Buddy, was born to Ernest and Tillie Brandes on October 19, 1927. He grew up on a farm outside of McGregor where he attended and graduated from the South Bosque School. He later served his country as a member of the Military Police in Germany during the 1950's.
On October 14, 1950, he married Ruth Harris in Brownwood, Texas. Together they raised three children, Linda, Tim and Robin. They made their home in McGregor and were active members of the First Baptist Church their entire lives. Max owned and operated a cabinet shop where he built many beautiful sets of cabinets…each one built with meticulous perfection and immense pride. After many successful years of building cabinets, he closed his shop. He went to work in the maintenance department at Baylor University where he met many new friends and continued to build new things and repair anything and everything that needed his attention, until his retirement.
Preceding Max in death was his loving wife, Ruth, and their daughter, Linda, preceded Max in death. Also preceding him was his sister, Helen Hoy.
He was the best daddy in every way and every lesson taught will be carried on by his son, Tim Brandes and wife, Roseann, of Moody and his daughter, Robin Hinson and her husband, Bill, of Crawford. Max's grandkids were his pride and joy, which was evident at every football, baseball, and softball game he attended. Also carrying forward his life lessons are Jeramy Brandes and wife, Theresa, of Dallas, Katy Zamora and husband, Manny, of Waco, Kacy Brandes of Waco, Jerad Hinson and wife, Lindsey, of Dallas, and Jacob Hinson and wife, Shelbi, of Waco.
He was able to hold, kiss, and squeeze some of his Great Grandbabies while others he only saw through the window at Westview Manor or in pictures. No matter what form of contact, each one of them brought a huge smile to his face and a bragging moment to all of his friends and staff at WM. Everyone knew whom Rylee, Mackenzie, Blakely, Kaydence, Hayes and Brody belonged to!
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of McGregor.
