She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Durst Jr.Visitation will be on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 1pm followed by funeral services at 2pm. Visitation and service will be held at Cole Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor Texas. Burial will follow at Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby Texas.Ruby was born on June 3, 1934 at Leon Junction Texas to parents Jesse and Mattie Bates Henager. She was one of 10 children, all of whom helped doing chores and farm work. She attended school at Lometa Texas. Occasionally the family would go on fishing trips. On one such fishing trip on the Leon River, Ruby met her future husband, Wallace Durst Jr. Ruby and Wallace fell in love and were married in 1950. Five years later they were blessed with their son, Don. The family moved to Goldthwaite for a couple of years, then Moody and Gatesville. In 1961, they moved to McGregor where they lived and became friends with many people over the next 10 years. Ruby always enjoyed living in McGregor and loved the people there. During that time, Ruby accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. This was a very important event not only for her, but it also led her husband Wallace and then Don to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. While living in McGregor, Ruby also attended nursing school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1967. Her first job out of nursing school was in McGregor at Westview Manor Nursing Home, just a block from where the family lived. She had a passion for helping people and loved everything about nursing. Ruby was also a Den Mother during the time that Don was in Cub Scouts. In 1971 the family moved to Woodway. Ruby and Wallace both retired from the VA Hospital in 1988 and started really enjoying life by camping and fishing nearly all the time. Ruby enjoyed fishing almost as much as Wallace, which is saying a lot. Ruby's behavior and mental health began to be affected by what we now know was dementia. By late 2011, Ruby developed severe dementia and began residing at Westview Manor Nursing Home in McGregor. Her son Don moved back to Woodway to help take care of Wallace and assist in taking care of Ruby's administrative needs. By the time Wallace passed away in February 2014. Ruby had been steadily declining in both mental and physical health despite the all the effort of the staff of Westview Manor and Providence Hospice. Only a couple of weeks ago, Ruby was moved to the Brister Care Home in Lometa to live under Hospice care in a home environment. She seemed to enjoy her private bedroom and home cooking, but on January 3, 2015, Ruby's appetite declined and the Hospice and Brister staff were doing everything to try to coax Ruby to eat and drink. By Tuesday afternoon on January 3, 2015, Ruby passed away peacefully in her rest, with her favorite stuffed bear "Hershey" by her side. Ruby leaves behind her son, Don, who has been with her through her ups and downs over the past several years. She is also survived by her brothers Kenneth Henager and his wife Waydell of Speegleville, and Roy Henagar and his wife Betty of Woodway. Family members also surviving include but are not limited to many nieces and nephews including Janice Guest and her husband James of Speegleville, as well as Arvol Hodge and wife Jan of Wichita Falls Texas. On Wallace's side of the family, sisters-in-law Frances Anderson of San Angelo Texas and Mary Parker of San Saba Texas. Nephews and nieces Jimmy Eckert and wife Debbie of Waco, Joy Zuehlke and husband Roy of Moody, and Nancy Zimmerman and husband Toby of Temple. She will also miss "Aunt Jewell" of Robinson. Ruby's family was very large and many have passed away, but Ruby also had many friends and former co-workers as well. Ruby also leaves behind a spoiled rotten Westie named "Karla". Before going into the nursing home at Westview Manor, Ruby would rock Karla in her rocking chair every day just like a baby. Ruby will be smiling down from Heaven knowing that her son, Don now rocks Karla every day. Ruby will be deeply missed.
