Vida Mae Fehler, 97, of McGregor, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Westview Manor nursing home where she had resided for the past 10 years. The funeral services will be held Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in McGregor where she was a long time member, with Pastor Terry Johnston officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor. She was born on her family's farm in Aquilla, TX on May 28, 1917 to Jessie Thomas Terry and Sydney Ophelia (Hornsby) Terry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold Henager, husband Floyd Fehler of 50 years, daughter Lawanda (Henager) Byrd, son-in-law Jack Byrd, granddaughter Julie Henager, great grandson Jeremy Collins, great-great grandsons Caleb McClaren and Hayes Hall, grandson-in-law Dan McClaren, and all of her siblings (2 brothers and 6 sisters). Survivors include one son, Donald Henager and wife Joan of McGregor and three daughters, Elaine Stallings and husband Bob of Bryan, Glenda Watson and husband Dewey of Leonard, TX and Carol Masters and husband Ben of Robinson. She was "Mammy" to eleven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Norma Lee Ashby and Pat Fehler and numerous nieces and nephews. Vida worked outside of the home briefly at the "Five & Dime" and Irene's Flower Shop in McGregor, but she was a homemaker most of her life, spending much of her time caring for others. She cared for her elderly parents and invalid brother, taught Sunday School and VBS and in her later years served as a volunteer at Westview Manor nursing home. Vida would always say she wasn't an educated person– she left school at an early age to help on the family farm and care for her younger siblings. But she demonstrated to her children the true value of family and taught us the very basic fundamentals that she had learned, which was how to love each other and how to respect others. She will be missed so much by all of those who knew and loved her. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Westview Manor. There are too many to name personally, but we are so grateful to each and every one of you for the tender love and care that you provided to our Mom and our grandmother these past 10 years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church, McGregor, TX. .
