Obituary

Vivian Reyna Castro, 66, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones in Waco, Texas. Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Crossroads Fellowship Church in Woodway, Texas with Reverend Cyndi Abbe officiating.

Vivian was born on February 21, 1957, to Alfonso Reyna and Josie (Zapata) Arterburn in Plainview, Texas.

Vivian's life was based on the simplicity of love, and she shared that with those around her. The love that she showed for Frank Castro, the man she married was undeniable. Even though they may have divorced they were still married in everyone's eyes. Her son-in-law always says they were the most married divorced couple he had ever met. She would go on to give birth to their only child Liza on September 4,1978. Vivian loved "Chacha" with her whole heart. They had a love that went beyond just mother and daughter, but the best of friends. They shared an undeniable love that was the perfect example of what a mother and daughter should share. Chacha would go on to bless Granny, as she would now be known as, with 4 grandchildren. Granny loved them BIG!! They were the light in her eyes and her pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Nothing would slow her down or stop her from doing anything and everything for them. Granny loved her entire family. That was unmatched by anything else she did in life. Her family is her legacy and the way she loved will live on through us.

Vivian had a passion for her God and family all the way to the end. She wanted everyone to know that she held God by the hand, and she wasn't letting go. We should hold on to God's hand and not let go either. If I have learned anything from this faithful woman, it's this: Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with LOVE. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 All of which she lived throughout her life.

Vivian is preceded in death by her not so ex-husband Frank Castro, mother Josie (Zapata) Arterburn and brother Freddie Reyna. Survivors include her father, Alfonso Reyna of Waco, TX; daughter, Liza Villarreal and husband, Frank/Frank of McGregor, TX; granddaughter, Angel Merchant and husband, Ren of Gatesville, TX, grandsons, William Bittle and wife, Kayla of Millsap, TX, McLain Villarreal of Salt Lake City, UT, Zackary Villarreal of McGregor, TX; great-grandchildren: Kynzi, Augustine, Roman, and Nyah Merchant all of Gatesville, TX; sisters, Annette Soto of Millsap, TX, Debbie Gonzales and husband, Abel of Millsap, TX and Sarah Avila and husband, Jessie of Moody, TX; countless nieces, nephews and friends.
